Plastics specialist igus® has launched an innovative solution to streamline the process of finding optimal machine components – the igusGO app. This innovative application utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize the search for suitable motion plastics, enhancing over 450 different applications. By simply capturing a photo of the specific application and its environment, users can harness the power of igusGO’s intelligence, which not only recommends products for lubrication-free design but also identifies potential areas for cost-saving and technological improvements in machine systems.
As far as product development is concerned, identifying the right components can be a time-intensive challenge, especially when confronted with a vast array of options in the market. To simplify this task and make it more engaging for customers, igus has introduced the igusGO app. This user-friendly tool enables customers to explore the potential applications of igus products within their specific use case, ultimately enhancing their design. The machine elements crafted from lightweight, high-performance plastics not only extend the service life of the equipment but also contribute to cost reduction.
The igusGO app operates seamlessly, allowing users to snap a photo of their application. Leveraging AI capabilities, the app identifies the object and presents potential applications of igus products within the machine or plant. The AI relies on data from previous igus projects implemented on comparable machines and components to offer valuable insights. With just a click, users gain access to detailed information about plain bearings, linear technology, or energy chains, with the option to order the product immediately through the igus shop or preview the expected product service life in the machine.

Frank Blase, CEO at igus, highlighted the app as a valuable addition to the company’s service offerings, emphasizing, “The igusGO app is intended to be a source of inspiration. At the same time, we want to open the app to a community where everyone can participate and share their projects with others. If the app does not recognise an application, the user can report it to us immediately. We’ll respond within 24 hours and point out any opportunities for improvement.”
The intelligence embedded in igusGO is continually expanding, with over 450 different applications already integrated into the app’s database. Users can find inspiration for a diverse range of applications, from coffee machines to bottling plants, airplanes, and even bucket wheel excavators. The app aims to foster a community where users can share their projects and experiences. If the app encounters an unrecognized application, users can promptly report it, and igus commits to responding within 24 hours, offering insights into potential improvements.
Beyond the igusGO app, igus is implementing AI for its energy chain spare-parts business. With the product recognition feature, users can photograph their chain, and the AI, trained by igus, identifies the corresponding model from nearly 50 e-chain series. This streamlined process allows users to quickly order spare parts without the need for a time-consuming search for previous purchase orders. “With our product recognition, we want to help all employees in companies order spare parts really quickly,” says Peter Wirth, Head of Digital Sales & Marketing, igus. This innovative application of AI demonstrates igus’ commitment to enhancing customer experiences and simplifying complex processes in the world of motion plastics and industrial components.
