Continental introduces Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computer for Vehicle Function Integration

Continental’s Smart Cockpit HPC offers ideal system-performance to integrate instrumentation, infotainment and driver assistance.

Continental, a leading technology company in the automotive industry, has introduced the Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computer (HPC), a groundbreaking solution designed to optimize system performance and functionality integration in vehicles. With its cost-effective approach and short development time, the Smart Cockpit HPC positions Continental at the forefront of the software-defined vehicle market trend.

The Smart Cockpit HPC is a 4-in-1 solution that offers a wide range of functions, balancing user experience, system performance, and cost efficiency. By leveraging its domain-specific and cross-domain HPC expertise, Continental has developed a pre-integrated system that enables fast time to market, with a preconfigured Cockpit HPC system ready in just 18 months.

Jean-Francois Tarabbia, head of the Architecture and Networking business area at Continental, highlighted the significance of the Smart Cockpit HPC, stating, “Continental provides the automotive market with a comprehensive range of HPC solutions. With the Smart Cockpit HPC, we now offer our customers the opportunity to bring an increasingly automated and exciting mobility experience to the road in a cost-optimized way and with short development times.”

One of the standout features of the Smart Cockpit HPC is its ability to seamlessly integrate various domains and functions, including cluster, infotainment, and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). By consolidating these functions into a single box, the Smart Cockpit HPC significantly reduces the complexity of the vehicle architecture, minimizing hardware costs in the cockpit area.

The Smart Cockpit HPC delivers exceptional performance with fast response times and a smooth user interface, even for cross-domain functions. It is designed for the typical configuration of two displays for the center stack and the instrument cluster, but can be expanded to accommodate up to three displays, such as a head-up display. Furthermore, while offering a preconfigured solution, the Smart Cockpit HPC allows for customer-specific adaptations in terms of human-machine and hardware interfaces.

Continental’s relentless pursuit of innovation and commitment to sustainable and connected mobility are evident in the development of pioneering technologies and services. With a rich history dating back to 1871, Continental continues to offer safe, efficient, intelligent, and affordable solutions for vehicles, machines, traffic, and transportation. The company’s sales of €39.4 billion in 2022 and its presence in 57 countries with around 200,000 employees exemplify its global impact.

The introduction of the Smart Cockpit HPC marks another milestone for Continental, solidifying its position as a key player in shaping the future of automotive technology. As the automotive industry evolves, the Smart Cockpit HPC’s integrated approach and streamlined functionality offer a glimpse into the seamless and connected driving experiences of tomorrow.
