Magical Machines: Neena Salvia Soren’s Journey of Determination

Despite being the only girl in a male-dominated course, Neena Sylvia Soren did not let that discourage her from pursuing her passion for mechanical engineering. Neena even after coming from an all-girls convent school, her focused personality and clarity of thought allowed her to stay determined in her own direction. Neena’s upbringing, personality, and environment likely played significant roles in shaping her passion for the manufacturing sector and her ability to excel in a male-dominating field.

In 2008, Neena got an opportunity to work with SOCOMEC India, a subsidiary of the French multinational company SOCOMEC Group. The company specializes in the manufacturing, development, and distribution of Low Voltage Power Management solutions, including UPS, transfer switches, and meters. Building an Inclusive Workplace in Manufacturing

Neena Soren’s journey was anything but easy. As a woman in a male-dominated field, she faced numerous challenges and biases on her path to becoming a Quality Manager at SOCOMEC India. Despite the obstacles, she proved herself through her hard work, determination, and excellent performance. However, when Neena joined as a manager, she faced a new set of challenges. As the only woman in a team of blue-collar male workers, she found it difficult to gain their trust and convince them of new policies or techniques. She knew that the bias she was facing was sole because of her gender, and she refused to let it hold her back.

With perseverance and patience, Neena worked tirelessly to prove the benefits of her changes to the manufacturing process and quality assurance. Slowly but surely, she won over her team and gained their respect and admiration. Neena’s journey serves as an example of the fact that women can excel in any field they choose, as long as they are given the chance and support, they deserve.

Neena firmly believes that women should not have to face these kinds of challenges in the workplace. Building an inclusive workplace, where everyone is respected and valued regardless of their gender, is crucial to creating a fair and just environment for all. Neena’s story is an inspiration to all women who dream of breaking barriers and making a name for themselves in any field, no matter how challenging.

Women’s Empowerment is not about Hiring More Women

Neena Soren is a firm believer that creating an inclusive workplace requires a multi-faceted approach. Her experience has shown her that it is essential to understand the various aspects of the workplace and encourage diversity in hiring practices. In her opinion, creating a culture of inclusion is crucial in valuing and promoting differences. Increasing the number of women in the workforce and developing their talent is also essential. But it’s not just about hiring more women. All employees, regardless of gender, must have equal access to training, promotions, and other growth opportunities without any bias.

A safe and healthy workplace is also a must. Unconscious bias affects decision-making, and we need to address it to ensure that all employees are treated fairly. Policies that promote equity and fairness should be implemented and followed. Neena believes that we need to provide flexible arrangements for female employees so that they can fulfil their caregiving responsibilities and other obligations. This flexibility can make a significant difference in the lives of female employees, enabling them to maintain a work-life balance and reach their full potential.

Neena’s approach to building an inclusive manufacturing workplace is one that values diversity, promotes equality, and creates a safe and supportive environment for all employees. Her vision for an equitable workplace is admirable in the industry, and so is her dedication to breaking down barriers and fostering equity.
