Demise of Er. R Parthiban: Indian manufacturing sector loses a visionary leader

The sad news of Engineer R Parthiban’s demise has struck the Indian manufacturing industries and SME’s with sorrow as the industry suffers a loss of a visionary leader. Mr Parthiban passed away on November 9 2021, after a prolonged illness.

Engineer R Parthiban, Managing Director of JPJ Technologies Pvt Ltd formerly known as J & J consultants, had vast experience of four decades in the manufacturing industry. Mr Parthiban was at the forefront, making great efforts in bringing developments in the Indian manufacturing industry, especially in the MSME sector.

Graduated from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai in 1980, Mr Parthiban passionately worked for the industry assuming various roles and gaining vital experience. He also specialized in topics such as materials and manufacturing processes, IE, automation, quality engineering/ management, and lean six sigma. Mr Parthiban attended various faculty development and training programs and also got hands-on experience in non-technical fields like finance.

Admirable qualities like passionate work, and thought clarity that R Parthiban possessed saw him getting elevated to the top managerial post by 1984, where he directly reported to the company’s Managing Directors. Engineer R Parthiban then went on to work for many reputed companies like Devendra Exports Pvt. Ltd, Staarpac India Ltd., Traverse Engineering Pvt. Ltd, General Auto Engineering Industries, Enfield India, Sudarsan Technologies, Electromags Automotive Products Pvt. Ltd. etc before landing as Managing Director at JPJ Technologies.

A BE Mechanical engineer, he graduated in 1980. He was in one of the first batches of lead assessors for ISO 9000 QMS trained by Batalas UK. After gaining experience from Enfield India, Janatics India; he turned around technically sick companies from sectors covering auto parts, auto electric parts, plastic parts, precision engineered metal parts, tool rooms, domestic appliances, packaging machines, automation, construction, hospitality etc

The major transformation he brought about were establishing systems and teams, the delegation of responsibilities and training. His main focus in recent years was on change management – mitigating the stress to customers, employees and suppliers, when the founder hands over the management to heirs, addressing generation gap related issues.

Along his illustrious career path, Mr Parthiban had actively supported the SME, and MSME sectors in India. He was at the forefront in revolutionizing the Indian MSME sector by providing efficient solutions for respective segments to grow. Engineering was Mr Parthiban’s passion, and thus, he contributed significantly to the student development projects and programs.

Mr Parthiban was a very helpful and resourceful person. He helped me in proofreading my book and we worked together on many projects. May his soul rest in peace.”

"Engineer R Parthiban was associated with Machine Maker for more than a decade, as a guiding figure, part of our Editorial Advisory Board. I met him first at the IMTEX exhibition in Bangalore with P S Satish and Manoj Kabre. A passionate engineer he wanted to solve the challenges faced by MSME manufacturers in India, and took many initiatives engaging with authorities. He was vocal about the way MSMEs were mistreated in India", said Hari Shanker, Managing Editor of Machine Maker. 

With Machine Maker, Mr Parthiban was preparing for an annual program to empower engineering students, but due to his poor health and the pandemic, the project was kept on hold. "The sudden departure of Mr Parthiban is a big loss for the industry as well as to Machine Maker. We offer our deep condolences to the family", added Hari.
