Volvo Group is establishing Volvo Mining, a dedicated business entity to bring together the Group’s products, expertise and services for the global mining industry. The new entity will begin operations on January 1, 2027, within Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).

Volvo Mining will offer Volvo trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions to mining companies and their contractors. The move is intended to strengthen the Group’s position in the mining sector as operators seek higher productivity, improved safety, lower emissions and more reliable operations.

Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo CE, said mining had been an important part of Volvo Group’s business for decades, but the industry’s growing importance required a greater focus. He said Volvo Mining would combine capabilities from across the Group to improve customer value in collaboration with retail partners.

The new entity will have dedicated financial resources and responsibility for managing the Group’s product and service portfolio for mining customers worldwide. It will also coordinate mining-related research projects across Volvo Group businesses. Initially, Volvo Mining will serve mining companies and contractors in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The company plans to expand into additional markets in phases.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, said mining customers make long-term investments and need partners with strong products, operational expertise and an understanding of their businesses. He said a single organization focused on the mining sector would help Volvo Group offer its products and services through a more integrated approach.

Mining operations depend on different machines and vehicles working together for excavation, loading, hauling and transportation, often in remote and demanding conditions. Volvo Mining aims to bring these capabilities together to help customers improve productivity and manage operational challenges.

Nils Jaeger, President of Volvo Autonomous Solutions, said combining the Group’s autonomous technology and operating experience with its broader product portfolio and customer relationships would support integrated mining solutions. These solutions are intended to improve safety, productivity and efficiency.

Per-Erik Lindstrom, currently Senior Vice President of Volvo Trucks International, has been appointed Head of Volvo Mining, effective January 1, 2027. Mr Lindstrom said the business would work with customers and partners to help mining companies improve productivity, strengthen safety and meet sustainability requirements. He added that the aim was to build long-term partnerships and help customers gain value from Volvo Group’s combined capabilities. Volvo Group provides trucks, buses, construction equipment and industrial power solutions, along with financial and service offerings. Its businesses also include autonomous transport solutions and related technologies.
