NCMT will mark 50 years of partnership with Japanese machine tool manufacturer Okuma with an open house at its Coventry Technical Centre on November 18 and 19, 2026. The event will give manufacturers an opportunity to examine six Okuma machines, meet NCMT engineers and discuss production requirements.

The partnership began in 1976, and NCMT continues to supply Okuma machine tools exclusively to manufacturers across the UK and Ireland. The anniversary event will showcase equipment from different stages of the partnership, illustrating developments in machining technology and the continued use of older machines.

Among the exhibits will be the Okuma MULTUS B200II W, which combines turning and milling in one machine. Its sub-spindle allows components to be transferred for further machining, helping reduce separate setups, repeated handling and re-fixturing. The larger MULTUS U4000 2SW x 1500 will also be displayed. The machine offers a maximum turning diameter of 650 mm and a turning length of 1,500 mm. Its flat-bed structure, Y-axis travel and milling capability are designed to support complex components that require multiple machining operations.

The GENOS M560V-e vertical machining centre will demonstrate Okuma’s approach to rigidity, thermal stability and machining accuracy. It features a 1,300 x 560 mm table, a 32-tool capacity and a standard 12,000 rpm spindle. The remaining machines include the GENOS L3000e MYW, which combines turning, driven tooling, Y-axis capability and a sub-spindle; an LU3000 EX displayed without its covers to show its mechanical construction; and a refurbished LR15-M that has been cutting metal for around 40 years. The operational LR15-M will highlight the longevity of earlier machine tool designs alongside newer manufacturing systems.

Jonathan Smart, Managing Director of NCMT, said the relationship had been built on shared standards, established customer relationships and a long-term commitment to engineering. He said the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the partnership while considering the technology manufacturers will require in the years ahead.

NCMT and Okuma are looking towards the next 50 years of cooperation, with a focus on evolving machining requirements and advances in manufacturing technology. Manufacturers attending the Coventry open house will be able to review the machines and discuss how their capabilities could address specific production challenges. NCMT supplies Okuma machine tools and related manufacturing technology to customers across the UK and Ireland. The company supports manufacturers through machine tool supply, engineering expertise and technical assistance.
