Larsen & Toubro (L&T), through its Public Spaces, Airports & Health (PAH) business vertical, has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from the public-private partnership (PPP) consortium developing the New Tashkent International Airport in Uzbekistan. Following the approval, the company has started initial engineering, detailed design, planning and procurement preparation for the greenfield airport project.

The LNTP follows the execution of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract awarded to L&T for the passenger terminal and associated landside infrastructure. The full Notice to Proceed is expected after the consortium fulfils the agreed contractual conditions. Construction at the site will begin following the issuance of the full notice.

L&T’s scope covers the development of passenger terminal facilities and associated infrastructure designed to handle approximately 17 million passengers annually. The work includes site grading, road infrastructure, structural construction, architectural finishes, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, utilities and the installation of advanced airport systems.

The New Tashkent International Airport is a greenfield infrastructure project intended to strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a regional aviation and logistics hub. The development is part of the country’s long-term transport infrastructure plans and is expected to improve connectivity between markets across Europe, Asia and other regions. The airport is also planned to support passenger travel, cargo movement and logistics operations as Uzbekistan expands its transport links and economic engagement with international markets.

Commenting on the development, Sthaladipti Saha, Senior Vice President and Head of Buildings Infrastructure at Larsen & Toubro, said the project marked an important addition to the company’s international infrastructure EPC portfolio. He said the airport would play a role in improving regional connectivity and supporting Uzbekistan’s ambition to develop a major aviation hub. L&T would focus on delivering the project in line with requirements for quality, safety and sustainability.

The initial activities will allow the company to advance engineering and project planning while the remaining conditions for the full project commencement are completed. Detailed design and procurement preparation are important stages in coordinating the terminal’s structural, architectural and technical systems.

The contract strengthens L&T’s presence in the airport infrastructure sector and adds to its portfolio of large-scale projects outside India. The company’s PAH business vertical undertakes airport, public space and healthcare infrastructure projects in India and international markets. With the New Tashkent International Airport, L&T will contribute to the development of transport infrastructure intended to accommodate future passenger and cargo demand while supporting Uzbekistan’s wider connectivity objectives.
