Nová Huť has received its first shipment of low-emission steel billets from Norwegian producer 7 Steel Nordic and has begun processing the material at its Medium Section Mill in Ostrava. The partnership expands the company’s range of steel products with lower-carbon raw material for customers in the construction, energy and engineering sectors.
7 Steel Nordic produces steel from recycled scrap using electric arc furnaces at its facility in Mo i Rana, Norway. The furnaces are powered by electricity generated from hydropower. According to 7 Steel Nordic, this production route can result in emissions up to 97% lower than those associated with conventional steel production.
The first billets have already arrived in Ostrava and are being processed into a range of steel sections. More than 500 different section dimensions can be produced from the material, including reinforcement bars, threaded bars, angle bars and other sections used in construction, geotechnical applications, energy and engineering. The partnership gives Nová Huť an additional source of raw material while allowing the company to offer customers steel products manufactured with a lower carbon footprint.
“I believe that the collaboration with 7 Steel Nordic will benefit both companies. By combining green steel from Norway with our know-how, we can offer customers top-quality products with a minimal carbon footprint,” said Michal Bubík, Sales Director of Nová Huť.
The Norwegian billets are being processed through Nová Huť’s existing production facilities in Ostrava, allowing the company to convert the low-emission material into finished steel sections for different applications. This also enables customers to access products based on recycled steel without requiring changes to their existing supply arrangements. Nová Huť’s product range and warehouse capacity provide flexibility in responding to customer requirements. The company can supply a broad range of section dimensions and maintain finished products for delivery according to customer demand.
The use of Norwegian low-emission steel billets also provides an additional option for customers seeking to reduce the carbon footprint associated with their steel products. By combining 7 Steel Nordic’s electric arc furnace production with Nová Huť’s processing capabilities, the partnership extends the use of recycled steel into construction, energy and engineering applications.
The cooperation is part of Nová Huť’s efforts to expand its sourcing options and increase the availability of steel products with lower associated emissions. The company will continue to process the Norwegian billets at its Ostrava facility into a range of finished steel sections. The partnership also provides 7 Steel Nordic with an additional route to market for its low-emission steel, while Nová Huť gains access to an alternative raw material source as it serves customers across multiple industrial sectors.
