Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is entering its second decade with a stronger focus on indigenous medical technology, startup development, research and manufacturing. As AMTZ prepares to mark its 10th Foundation Day, the organisation is expanding its MedTech ecosystem to support the development and commercialisation of new healthcare technologies in India.

A key development is the expansion of Medi Valley, AMTZ’s MedTech incubation platform supported by NITI Aayog. The expanded facility includes a new 1-lakh-square-foot tower designed to provide startups with the infrastructure and technical support needed to move products from ideas to prototypes and eventually towards regulatory approvals. The facility aims to help startups develop prototypes within six months and pursue regulatory clearances within 12 months. Startups will have access to specialised laboratories, testing facilities and other resources required for product development.

The expansion was highlighted during a visit to AMTZ by Dr N Kalaiselvi, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India. During her visit, Dr Kalaiselvi met Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO, AMTZ, and senior officials.

She also visited MedTech companies operating within the AMTZ ecosystem, including Pyramed, Molbio Diagnostics, Transasia Bio-Medicals and Electra. The visit included a foundation stone ceremony for SS Medical Systems (I) Pvt Ltd, which is expanding its indigenous MedTech manufacturing operations. The company’s OptiMaser technology has been deployed at more than 55,000 installations across India.

Dr Jitendra Sharma said AMTZ’s first decade had focused on creating the foundations for India’s MedTech capabilities and that the organisation would now concentrate on accelerating innovation and strengthening the domestic value chain. “AMTZ is entering its next decade with a clear focus on accelerating indigenous innovation, strengthening the MedTech value chain and building an Atmanirbhar, globally competitive MedTech ecosystem for India,” Sharma said.

Addressing MedTech startups, Dr Kalaiselvi praised the ecosystem created at AMTZ and highlighted its potential as a model for other parts of the country. She said AMTZ had brought together innovation, research, manufacturing and entrepreneurship under one ecosystem.

She also announced that all 37 CSIR laboratories are open to AMTZ startups for research, technology and innovation support. The move is expected to strengthen collaboration between startups and national research institutions. With the expansion of Medi Valley and greater access to research capabilities, AMTZ aims to support more startups and accelerate the development of locally designed and manufactured medical technologies. The initiative is also aligned with the broader objective of strengthening India’s healthcare manufacturing capabilities and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
