Membrane Group India Private Limited has entered into a joint venture with Japan’s Kurita Water Industries Ltd to establish Kurita Membrane India Private Limited, a company dedicated to providing advanced process water and wastewater treatment solutions for India’s fast-growing semiconductor and advanced electronics manufacturing sectors.
The new venture combines Kurita’s global expertise in semiconductor water treatment technologies with Membrane Group’s engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities in India. Kurita will hold a 51% stake in the joint venture, while Membrane Group will own the remaining 49%, reflecting a shared commitment to building world-class water infrastructure for one of India’s most strategic manufacturing sectors.
The partnership comes at a time when India is accelerating efforts to establish a robust semiconductor ecosystem, with the country targeting a semiconductor value chain worth US$120–150 billion by 2035. Reliable water management has emerged as a critical requirement for semiconductor fabrication, where ultrapure water and efficient wastewater recycling are essential for maintaining production quality and operational efficiency.
Kurita Membrane India will offer a comprehensive portfolio of solutions covering the entire water management cycle for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. Its offerings will include ultrapure water systems, industrial water treatment plants, advanced wastewater treatment technologies, water reclamation and recycling systems, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) solutions, resource recovery technologies, laboratory-based water analysis and complete lifecycle support encompassing engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance.
The company will also establish a dedicated Ultrapure Water Analysis Centre to provide advanced testing, process optimisation and technical services. The facility will help manufacturers maintain stringent water quality standards required for semiconductor production while improving resource efficiency and environmental performance.
Commenting on the development, Peeyush Narang, Managing Director of Membrane Group India Private Limited, said India is entering a defining phase in its journey towards becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing destination. He noted that dependable water infrastructure will play a vital role in supporting this transformation. By combining Kurita’s internationally recognised expertise in semiconductor water technologies with Membrane Group’s engineering capabilities and local execution strengths, the joint venture aims to deliver sustainable water management solutions that support industrial growth while conserving natural resources.
The partnership also marks an important milestone in Membrane Group’s expansion into high-technology manufacturing sectors. The company’s long-term growth strategy is supported by GEF Capital Partners, a global private equity investor focused on resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable businesses.
Semiconductor manufacturing facilities require highly reliable water purification, recycling and environmental management systems to ensure uninterrupted production and compliance with strict quality standards. Through the new joint venture, the partners intend to provide advanced technologies that improve water reuse, minimise wastewater generation and optimise resource recovery while reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.
With increasing investments flowing into India’s semiconductor industry from domestic and international companies, Kurita Membrane India is positioned to become a key technology partner for manufacturers seeking reliable, sustainable and high-performance water treatment infrastructure. The venture is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities while supporting the country’s broader objectives of industrial self-reliance, environmental sustainability and responsible resource management.
