Henkel has announced a major sustainability milestone with the achievement of carbon-neutral production at its flagship Adhesive Technologies manufacturing facilities in Kurkumbh, India, and Gebkim, Türkiye. The accomplishment marks a significant step in the company’s global effort to reduce operational emissions and advance its long-term climate commitments.

The two facilities have successfully eliminated Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions through a combination of full electrification, renewable energy adoption, and the complete removal of fossil-fuel-based energy sources from production operations. The achievement aligns with Henkel’s strategy to accelerate decarbonization across its global manufacturing network while supporting science-based climate objectives.

At the Kurkumbh facility, the company completed a large-scale transformation by replacing furnace-oil-based thermic fluid heating systems with advanced electric alternatives. The project involved extensive modernization of the site’s energy infrastructure, including optimization of thermal processes, installation of high-efficiency heat exchangers, and significant upgrades to electrical capacity. Combined with the transition to electricity sourced entirely from renewable energy, the initiative eliminated approximately 11,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually.

Similarly, Henkel’s Gebkim facility in Türkiye underwent a major electrification project that replaced a natural-gas-fired boiler system with a high-efficiency electric boiler. The conversion removed direct fossil fuel consumption from the site and eliminated Scope 1 emissions, resulting in annual carbon savings of nearly 956 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Simon Ulmann, Vice President Supply Chain and Operations IMEA at Henkel Adhesive Technologies, said the achievement demonstrates the company’s commitment to translating sustainability goals into measurable operational outcomes. He noted that Henkel is systematically replacing fossil-fuel-dependent processes with electrified systems powered by renewable energy as part of its roadmap toward net-zero operations.

Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Director Operations and Projects India at Henkel Adhesive Technologies, emphasized that the Kurkumbh milestone reflects the company’s dedication to responsible manufacturing and sustainable growth. He stated that renewable energy adoption and continuous efficiency improvements have enabled significant carbon reductions while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational performance.

Henkel operates globally across both industrial and consumer markets with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability. Its Adhesive Technologies division is a global leader in adhesives, sealants, and coatings, while its Consumer Brands portfolio includes well-known products in laundry care and professional hair care.

In India, Henkel maintains a significant presence through its adhesive technologies business and its professional hair care operations. Headquartered in Navi Mumbai, the company operates multiple manufacturing and innovation facilities across the country and employs more than 1,300 people. Through initiatives such as the Kurkumbh safety engagement, Henkel continues to promote responsible industrial practices and contribute to safer workplaces across India.
