Hyundai Motor Company has launched “School of Football,” a new global brand campaign featuring Atlas, the advanced humanoid robot developed by Boston Dynamics. Introduced as part of Hyundai Motor’s “Next Starts Now” platform leading into the FIFA World Cup 2026™, the campaign uses football as a powerful cultural connector to demonstrate how robotics technology is evolving through learning, adaptation and human-inspired movement.

The campaign departs from conventional technology showcases by presenting a story-driven narrative centered on Atlas’ journey into the world of football. Rather than focusing solely on engineering specifications, the series explores how a humanoid robot can observe, interpret and replicate the passion, creativity and expression that define the sport.

“School of Football” unfolds through a five-episode social media series released across Hyundai Motor’s global digital channels. The storyline follows Atlas from its first exposure to football through a structured learning process that mirrors human athletic development. Beginning with observations of fan reactions and match-day emotions, Atlas gradually progresses through essential football skills including movement, passing, ball control and shooting.

As the episodes advance, the robot demonstrates increasingly sophisticated capabilities, culminating in the execution of the “Ghost Rabona,” a technically demanding football maneuver requiring precise balance, timing and coordination. The progression highlights the principles of continuous learning, repetition and performance optimization that underpin both elite sports training and advanced robotics development.

A defining feature of the campaign is the authenticity of Atlas’ movements. All football actions featured in the films were performed by the robot itself without the use of computer-generated imagery. The project demonstrates how physical artificial intelligence can be applied in dynamic, real-world environments where movement, balance and adaptability are critical.

To perform complex football actions, Atlas processes detailed human motion data and trains within physics-based simulation environments. Through reinforcement learning, the robot repeatedly practices movements to refine stability, accuracy and execution. This process enables Atlas to perform actions that require full-body coordination, real-time balance adjustments, precision motor control and adaptation to changing momentum.

The campaign also underscores the growing collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group and Boston Dynamics in advancing robotics innovation. By combining expertise in mobility, artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics, the organizations are exploring new possibilities for human-robot interaction across industrial and everyday environments. Additional behind-the-scenes content will provide audiences with insight into the development and training processes behind Atlas’ football performance, offering a closer look at the technologies driving robotic learning and motion design.

“School of Football” reinforces Hyundai Motor’s commitment to making advanced technology more accessible and relatable through storytelling. By connecting innovation with sport, emotion and creativity, the campaign illustrates how robotics can be inspired by human experiences while contributing to future advancements in mobility and automation.

Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor Group plans to further develop Atlas through training programs at its Robot Metaplant Application Center in Savannah, Georgia. The initiative supports the company’s broader vision of expanding human-robot collaboration and accelerating the deployment of intelligent robotic solutions in industrial settings worldwide.
