Intertek has announced the opening of its first Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing laboratory in India, marking a significant step in expanding its presence across the southern region of the country. The new facility reinforces Intertek’s commitment to supporting India’s fast-growing manufacturing and electronics sectors with advanced testing capabilities.
Aligned with the legacy of co-founder Thomas Edison, the laboratory reflects Intertek’s continued focus on innovation and scientific excellence. The launch also highlights the company’s broader strategy to deliver high-quality assurance services that meet evolving global standards.
Located in Bengaluru’s Peenya industrial area, the facility spans approximately 11,000 square feet and represents Intertek’s fifth electrical laboratory in India, as well as its second in the city’s prominent Electronic City hub. The lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art three-metre semi-anechoic chamber designed to support EMI and EMC testing, along with wireless testing capabilities of up to 6 GHz and Radiated Spurious Emission (RSE) testing up to 40 GHz.
With this addition, Intertek becomes one of the select organisations in India offering accredited EMC testing services that include a comprehensive range of immunity testing. These capabilities extend from harmonic and inter-harmonic immunity to proximity magnetic field immunity, enabling manufacturers to validate product performance under varied electromagnetic conditions.
The new laboratory is positioned to address increasing demand for EMC and EMI testing in India, driven by government initiatives promoting domestic manufacturing, rising adoption of global compliance standards, and rapid technological advancement. It will support a wide spectrum of industries, including medical devices, industrial equipment, household appliances, lighting, multimedia products, safety components, measurement and control systems, renewable energy solutions, and telecom-regulated equipment.
Commenting on the development, Ajay Kapoor, Regional Managing Director for South Asia, stated that India represents a key growth market for Intertek. He noted that the new laboratory enables local manufacturers to access world-class testing services within the country, helping them meet international quality and safety benchmarks more efficiently.
Sunny Rai, President of Electrical, Connected World, and Transportation Technologies at Intertek, highlighted that the facility complements the company’s recent expansion of its ETL Certification Programme. He emphasised that the Bengaluru lab will streamline the journey from product development to regulatory compliance, offering manufacturers faster turnaround times supported by global expertise and local delivery.
